Standard&Poor's Ratings Services raised its underlying rating (SPUR) on Saranac Lake Central School District, N.Y.'s general obligation (GO) debt one notch to 'A+' from 'A' based on its opinion of the district's consistently good financial position. The outlook is stable. Additional credit factors include our view of the district's: Substantial property tax base with state forest land and a number of vacation properties; Limited local economic base centered on tourism and government; and Low debt levels, coupled with low carrying charges and rapid debt amortization. The district's full faith and credit pledge secures the bonds. The New York State Aid Intercept program, as stated in Section 99-b of State Finance Law, provides additional security.
