HONG KONG (Standard&Poor's) June 17, 2014--Standard&Poor's Ratings Services today lowered its long-term issue rating on the subordinated tranche of the medium-term notes (MTN) program by The Bank of East Asia Ltd. (BEA: A/Stable/A-1; cnAA+/cnA-1) to 'BBB-' from 'A-'. We also lowered our Greater China regional scale rating on the tranche to 'cnA-' from 'cnAA'. At the same time, we affirmed our 'A/A-1' issue ratings and 'cnAA+/cnA-1' Greater China regional scale ratings on the senior unsecured tranche of the US$6 million MTN program. We also affirmed our 'A-' long-term issue rating and 'cnAA' long-term Greater China regional scale rating on the bank's existing subordinated notes.
