NEW YORK (Standard&Poor's) Jan. 16, 2002--Standard&Poor's today said that it is reviewing its ratings on the United Mexican States in light of the country's recent passage of the 2002 budget and the tax reform approved by Congress. Standard&Poor's local currency sovereign credit rating on Mexico is BBB+/Positive/A-2; its foreign currency sovereign credit rating, BB+/Positive/B. Standard&Poor's expects to make a decision on Mexico's ratings soon after a meeting with the government at the end of January. "We will meet with the government at the end of the month to discuss issues that would allow us to review Mexico's ratings" said Graciana del Castillo, lead Mexico analyst for Standard&Poor's sovereign ratings group.
