NEW YORK (Standard&Poor's) Aug. 6, 2001--Standard&Poor's today assigned its single-'A'-plus rating to Greenwood County, S.C.'s $57.47 million hospital facilities revenue bonds, series 2001, issued for Self Memorial Hospital. In addition, Standard&Poor's affirmed its single-'A'-plus underlying rating (SPUR) on the county's outstanding debt, issued for Self. The rating is based on: -- Continued financial strength, evidenced by sound operations and a strong balance sheet that is providing short-term financial flexibility as the hospital implements its cardiac program; -- A solid business position, as Self is the regional referral center in its seven-county service area; and -- Consistent growth in business volumes. The proceeds will be used to construct and expand operating rooms, add intensive-care beds
