NY -- Standard&Poor's CreditWire 11/21/95 -- Standard&Poor's raises its corporate credit rating of Eskom to double-`B'-plus from double-`B' Also, Standard&Poor's assigns its triple-`B'-plus rating to Eskom's senior local currency debt. The foreign currency rating remains constrained by the Republic of South Africa's long-term foreign currency rating, which was upgraded to double-`B'-plus from double-`B' on Nov. 20. The assigned local currency rating mirrors that of the sovereign. Both ratings have positive outlooks. The ratings reflect Eskom's position as South Africa's primary generator and transmitter of electricity and its strategic importance in supporting long-term economic growth in the country.
