NY -- Standard & Poor's CreditWire 10/8/96 -- Standard & Poor's today has affirmed its single-`A' senior debt and `A-1' commercial paper ratings of Allstate Corp. and double-`A' claims-paying ability rating of Allstate Insurance Co. This follows the company's announcement that it will increase net reserves by $405 million for environmental and asbestos liabilities as well as for other discontinued lines. This amount is within the range expected by Standard & Poor's and was factored in the Aug. 28, 1996 review and affirmation of the companies' ratings. -- CreditWire
