Abstract:

On Dec. 21, 2007, Standard&Poor's Ratings Services revised its outlooks on France-based Crédit Agricole S.A. (CASA) and corporate and investment banking subsidiary Calyon to stable from positive, following news yesterday that the unit is to post a full-year loss for 2007 due to an additional €2.5 billion in write-downs on U.S. subprime-related exposures. At the same time, Standard&Poor's affirmed the 'AA-/A-1+' counterparty credit ratings on CASA and Calyon. In addition, the outlooks on a number of CASA's related entities, including the Caisses Régionales de Crédit Agricole (CRCAs), were similarly revised to stable from positive, and the counterparty credit ratings on these entities were affirmed. The large write-downs illustrate the potential for risk management breakdowns and revenue
