Standard&Poor's Ratings Services affirmed its 'AAA' long-term rating and 'AAA/A-1+' rating on Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) existing debt, some of which was issued by the Massachusetts Development Finance Agency (formerly known as the Massachusetts Health and Educational Facilities Authority). The outlook is stable. The 'AAA' rating reflects our view of MIT's substantial endowment, incredible demand for its programs, stable levels of research, consistently strong operating performance, and adequate financial resources for the rating. This offsets our view of the flat to declining federal research funding environment and significant capital and deferred maintenance needs.
