Abstract:

The Regional Municipality of Waterloo mandated GrandLinq GP (ProjectCo) to design, build, finance, operate, and maintain a 19-kilometer light rail transit (LRT) route from the Conestoga Mall in the City of Waterloo, Ont., to Fairview Park Mall in the City of Kitchener, Ont., with 16 at-grade stops. Peter Kiewit Infrastructure Co. and Aecon Construction and Materials Ltd. constructed the project, which started Aug. 2014. The project achieved substantial completion (SC) on June 19, 2019, with the region agreeing to waive a few SC requirements, and started revenue service on June 21, 2019.
