NY -- Standard&Poor's CreditWire 9/2/97 -- Standard&Poor's today affirmed its 'A-1' commercial paper rating on Duke Energy Corp.'s $1.25 billion commercial paper program. In addition, Standard&Poor's assigned its single-'A' bank loan rating to Duke Energy's $1.25 billion five-year credit agreement due August 2002, reflecting the unsecured nature of the bank line. At the same time, Standard&Poor's withdraws its 'A-2' commercial paper rating at PanEnergy Corp., a Duke Energy subsidiary, since that program has been terminated. The long-term outlook is stable. The bank facility will be used primarily as backup for commercial paper. Proceeds from the commercial paper program are earmarked to provide financing for Duke Energy's electric utility investments.
