Abstract:

TOKYO (Standard&Poor's) Feb. 20, 2008--Standard&Poor's Ratings Services said today that its ratings on Toshiba Corp. (BBB+/Stable/A-2) would be unaffected by the company's plans to completely withdraw from its HD DVD-related operations and to build new NAND flash memory chip plants in Japan. On Feb. 20, 2008, Toshiba formally announced that it would discontinue its HD DVD operations and construct two new plants in Japan, in an attempt to enhance the production capacity of its core product, the NAND flash memory chip. Standard&Poor's believes that the planned withdrawal would have no immediate impact on the ratings on Toshiba, even after taking into account expected losses associated with the withdrawal and the total investment required for
