NEW YORK (Standard&Poor's) Aug. 4, 2004--The Brinks Company (BBB/Stable/--) today announced preliminary results for the second quarter of 2004 and disclosed that one of its non-U.S. business units has not paid approximately $3 million, before interest, of foreign duties and value-added taxes with respect to the importation of various goods and services. The company stated that it is still investigating the matter and could face up to $85 million, excluding interest, in potential penalties, based on its investigation to date.
