NEW YORK (Standard&Poor's CreditWire) July 27, 2001--Standard&Poor's today affirmed its ratings on AMR Corp. and its subsidiary, American Airlines Inc., (see list below) and removed them from CreditWatch, where they were placed Jan. 10, 2001. The outlook is negative. The U.S. Department of Justice today announced that it will sue to block UAL Corp.'s proposed acquisition of US Airways Group Inc., a transaction in which AMR was to participate by buying certain US Airways assets. The Justice Department move effectively ends the merger plans.
