The financial market reaction to Donald Trumps US election victory has been muted. His victory should have little impact on the UK economic outlook, given that his most contentious ideas are likely to be watered down by Congress. But Trumps win does increase the degree of uncertainty in both directions.The official trade data shows a much more muted reaction to the weaker pound than the business surveys. But the effects should feed through as we move into next year and, in the interim, consumers appear content to do most of the work.
