About This Report

Abstract:

The market turbulence that marked the start of the year seems to have abated following a substantial fiscal easing in China. This is beginning to be reflected in a recovery in the latest European survey data, which together with the earlier production numbers points to a solid quarters growth in Q1. A natural consequence of this improvement in sentiment is that expectations of interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve this year are beginning to firm up, reversing their earlier decline. With European bond yields constrained by the zero bound, this should result a renewed increase swap spreads. We think this will be reflected in a renewed depreciation of the euro back towards $1:05.
