About This Report

Abstract:

The economys strong performance in Q2 is unlikely to be sustained during the second half of the year, with growth undermined by increasingly strong headwinds due to political uncertainty, rising violence and stubbornly high inflation dampening confidence. Meanwhile, the external environment has deteriorated and the fundamental imbalances remain considerable. The heavy selling pressure on the currency is likely to force the central bank to tighten monetary policy this year. The downside risks that we had previously identified are starting to materialise. As a result, we have lowered our growth forecasts. We now expect the economy to grow by 2.9% in 2015, and by 2.8% next year.
