About This Report

Abstract:

The short duration of the failed military coup-attempt on July 15 allowed the authorities to regain control of the situation, albeit in a reconfigured political landscape as the government purges many of the countrys institutions. Turkish assets have recovered some of the ground lost in the initial market reaction to the coup as the government has been quick to limit the economic fallout, announcing a series of measures and support to the economy. We have maintained our baseline growth forecast, which sees the economy slowing to 3.3% in 2016 from 4% in 2015, as it already assumed a high level of political uncertainty. But the downside risks have intensified, not only related to the potential for a credit rating downgrade but also this years sharp fall in tourism.
