About This Report

Abstract:

GDP growth is now seen at just 0.6% in 2015, with tourism revenues in the key summer period of July-October down 47% from a year earlier following the terrorist attack in June. Growth is forecast to recover to 2.4% in 2016, but the recovery will be constrained by a slowdown in the agricultural sector due to a normalisation of olive production and only a limited rebound in tourism. In addition, modest Eurozone demand, poor access to credit as the banking sector remains fragile; lingering protests caused by falling living standards and weak investment growth will all hamper any industrial upturn. On the external accounts, the current account deficit is expected to remain high at around 9% of GDP in both 2015 and 2016 given the weakness of tourism.
