Abstract:

Pakistans economy continues to expand as short-term vulnerabilities recede. Output data point to stronger growth, with large-scale manufacturing in July-February up 4.3% on the year compared with 2.4% in the same year-earlier period. And consumer confidence continues to rise in line with the more encouraging economic scene. In addition, the IMF programme remains on track, with another tranche of some US$500m released at end-March. Overall, we now forecast GDP growth of 4.5% in the 2015/16 fiscal year, up from 4.2% in 2014/15, with a further pick-up to 4.7% seen in 2016/17 and then over 5% in 2018-19.
