About This Report

Abstract:

High-frequency data was mixed during the second quarter. Whereas trade and monthly household consumption data were relatively encouraging, industrial production plummeted as a consequence of restrictions on gas extraction. On the whole, our indicator points to growth of up to 0.4% q/q compared to the relatively strong 0.5% registered in Q1. We forecast growth edging higher in H2, reaching 1.5% y/y for 2016 as a whole from 2.0% last year. Although recent survey data has revealed little impact from the Brexit vote, the uncertainty stemming from UKs decision to leave the EU is still the biggest source of downside risk for the Dutch economy. This aside, with relatively solid private consumption, investment fuelled by the housing market recovery and resilient net trade, the economy seems set to continue its broad-based, moderately-paced recovery.
