About This Report

Abstract:

A 0.5% GDP contraction in Q3 has brought down our 2015 growth estimate to 1.2% (from 1.8%). A poor export performance was a key factor in the Q3 contraction. Net exports are likely to be a drag on growth this year too. We expect GDP growth of 1.9% in 2016. Consumer spending is likely to stay resilient, supported by a buoyant labour market. Inflation will stay low but pick up from around 0.5% in 215 towards 1.5%. Extremely high levels of household debt are a major vulnerability for the economy in the medium term.
