About This Report

Abstract:

LatAm economies have been dragged down by a number of very challenging external factors; collapsing commodity prices, market volatility driven by uncertainty about US monetary policy and fears of further deceleration in Chinese growth, and sluggish world trade. Colombias economic prospects have been affected by these trends but they still remain quite robust, with GDP growth projected around 3% both this year and next, way stronger than the regional average. However, these adverse global conditions have exposed vulnerabilities in Colombias economy in particular the peso has fallen significantly, which in turn has pushed up inflation and forced the central bank to raise interest rates to check medium-term inflation expectations.
