About This Report

Abstract:

We have adopted slightly more cautious GDP growth forecasts in the wake of the Brexit vote. Although the UK itself is not a major trading partner, we expect second-round impacts on the Bulgarian economy through a slowdown in other key European markets. Nearly two-thirds of Bulgarian exports end up in other EU countries, and exports of goods are equivalent to 50% of GDP. In addition, uncertainty about the repercussions of Brexit may undermine both business and consumer confidence at the margin. We now expect the economy to grow by an average 2.9% in 2017-19 compared to 3.2% two months ago, with more cautious assumptions on the growth in consumer spending, investment and export volumes.
