World basic metals production is forecast to expand by 1.8% both this year and next. On a sub-sector basis, iron & steel production is forecast to grow by 1.6% in 2017, nonferrous output by a rapid 2.2% while castings output will rise just 1.3%, weighed down by the slowdown in motor vehicles.
