This is typical for large integrated energy companies in the current economic climate. The continuing slide in oil prices and rising production costs are the likely drivers of this market signals decline for Shell and we do not expect meaningful recovery in Shells market-implied ratings until oil prices begin to recover.FIGURE 1. On several occasions over the prior 12 months the CDS-implied rating rose to Aa3, so it is now down by four notches from that high point (Figure 1).Shells EDF-implied rating was Aa1 one year ago and has deteriorated to Ba2, a huge ten-notch drop. The EDF measure of 0.16% worsened from 0.01% over that time frame.
