Abstract:

Uzbekistan has had one of the weaker performing construction sectors in Central Asia over the last decade - although average real growth has still been above the global growth rate of - . With an industry value of an estimated UZS--.-trn (USD-.-bn), as we had been predicting Uzbekistan has fallen from second largest Central Asian construction market to third in ----, overtaken by a strengthening Turkmenistan. ...Industrial construction projects are a bright area, given the country s natural resources, as well as pipeline infrastructure. China s One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative, aiming at expanding its economic and geopolitical influence in Eurasia, will lead to the acceleration of Chinese mining investment in Central Asia.

...Indeed, we forecast Uzbek gas-fired power generation to expand by an annual average of -.- between ---- and ---- - with the sector set to comprise about -- of total power generation throughout the next decade.
