Terrorist attacks over ---- and ----, both within France and in neighbouring Belgium and Germany, are expected to have deterred some visits in the short term, with arrivals to Paris and the surrounding region particularly affected. Though the government has responded forcefully and quickly to the crisis, with a heavy deployment of troops and police officers in the capital, further incidents are considered possible and this will impact upon arrivals from markets such as the United States. A series of strikes in various sectors, including air-traffic control, have also negatively impacted upon the tourism market. Somewhat off-setting these factors is the hosting of high-profile sporting events such as the ---- UEFA European Championship and the weakening of the euro which made France a more affordable holiday destination for travellers from outside the region.
