Abstract:

The rejection by shareholders of a Toshiba plan to spin off a core business means it has become highly unlikely that the company's performance and cash flow will deteriorate substantially. Despite ongoing management issues, we do not expect Toshiba's financial ratios to deteriorate significantly soon: The company has relatively stable cash flows from its infrastructure business. We affirmed our 'BB+' long- and 'B' short-term credit ratings on the company and removed the long-term issuer credit rating from CreditWatch with negative implications. The negative outlook reflects our view that there is at least a one-in-three chance that Toshiba's competitiveness and financial cushion will deteriorate amid prolonged management turmoil.
