...October 3, 2024 What's new: On Sep. 26, 2024, Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida's Big Bend region as a Category 4 hurricane and then moved through Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina over the next four days. The storm is expected to be one of the costliest storms in history. Duke Energy Corp., through its subsidiaries, serves millions of customers in the affected counties across northern Florida, and the western parts of South and North Carolina. The storm brought significant storm surge and flooding, causing considerable damage throughout Duke's service territory. In total, about 3 million of Duke's customers lost power, including about 750,000 in Florida and about 2.2 million across the Carolinas. Currently, power has been restored to about 2.6 million customers and company expects that the vast majority will have power restored before the weekend.
