Abstract:

Standard&Poor's Ratings Services assigned its 'SP-1+' rating to the University of Pittsburgh's $83 million series 2005 PANTHERS notes. In addition, Standard&Poor's affirmed its 'AA' standard long-term rating and underlying rating (SPUR) on the university's long-term debt. The 'A-1+' short-term rating on the university's outstanding variable-rate debt and the 'SP-1+' rating on its series 2004 PANTHERS notes were also affirmed. The outlook is stable. The 'SP-1+' rating is based on the university's history of strong market access and underlying credit strengths. The 'A-1+' short-term rating reflects the liquidity support provided by external standby bond purchase agreements with a stated commitment of roughly $420 million.
