The ratings on F. van Lanschot Bankiers N.V. (Van Lanschot) reflect conservative management and good asset quality, together with solid earnings and a sound capital base. A limited presence in its chosen markets and still-limited business diversification could constrain its ratings, however. Van Lanschot provides a range of lending, asset management, and other financial services to high-net-worth individuals, midsize--largely family owned--businesses, and institutional investors. Established in 1737, Van Lanschot is the oldest independent bank in the Netherlands, and with total assets of €17.6 billion, it ranks sixth-largest in Dutch retail banking. Activities are largely based in the Netherlands, although the bank also has strong private banking operations in Belgium. Van Lanschot acquired CenE Bankiers N.V. from the ING Groep N.V.
