About This Report

Abstract:

Highly strategic subsidiary of the Citi group. Strong capitalization. Limited exposure to risky industries relative to local peers'. Small market share relative to local peers. Moderate profitability, given intense competition with local peers. Potential pressure on asset quality from high household leverage. The stable outlook on Korea-based Citibank Korea Inc. (CKI) follows our stable outlook on the bank's U.S. affiliate, Citibank N.A., which is the lead bank operating entity of the Citi group. We believe CKI will retain its high strategic importance to the Citi group for the next 18-24 months. We also believe the group has both the capacity and the willingness to provide significant support to CKI if needed. We could downgrade CKI if we lower our ratings

We may over time reassess the ALAC uplift for CKI as more details emerge regarding the amount of prepositioning of capital that will be permanently maintained at the bank. Alternatively, we may downgrade CKI if we see the bank's strategic importance to the Citi group as significantly reduced, such that we believe it would not warrant additional liquidity, capital,...
