Research Update: American Equity Operating Entities Upgraded To 'A' On Acquisition And Revised Criteria; Off CreditWatch; Outlook Stable

On Nov. 15, 2023, we published our revised criteria for analyzing insurers' risk-based capital (see "Insurer Risk-Based Capital Adequacy--Methodology And Assumptions"). Brookfield Reinsurance Ltd. (Brookfield Re) has completed its acquisition of American Equity Investment Life Holding Co. (American Equity). American Equity will be part of the American National group, and we consider it core to American National. We are therefore raising our ratings on all American Equity operating entities to 'A' from 'A-'. The stable outlook reflects our expectation that American Equity will maintain its satisfactory competitive position in its core markets and excellent financial risk profile under new ownership as well as under the new criteria.
