TORONTO (Standard&Poor's CreditWire) Aug 14, 2000--Standard&Poor's today revised its rating outlook on the Province of Alberta to positive from stable. At the same time, Standard&Poor's affirmed its double-'A'-plus long-term issuer credit and senior unsecured debt ratings on the province. The 'A-1'-plus short-term foreign currency issuer credit and commercial paper ratings also were affirmed. The outlook revision reflects the potential for an upgrade of Alberta's domestic currency rating to triple-`A' in the next one to three years should continuance of recent very strong economic performance and favorable fiscal policies lead to further significant debt reduction. The province's net-tax-supported debt, which was about 8.1% of GDP as of March 31, 2000, is the lowest of all
