NY -- Standard&Poor's CreditWire 8/8/97 -- Standard&Poor's today has assigned its single-'A' rating to Newark Unified School District, Calif.'s $7.5 million G.O. bonds series 1997A. The bonds are scheduled to sell Aug. 13. At the same time, Standard&Poor's has affirmed its single-'A'-minus rating on the district's outstanding refunding certificates of participation. The rating on the district's bonds reflects: -- Participation in the San Francisco Bay area's strong and diverse economy, -- Above-average income and wealth indicators, and -- A large and steadily growing property tax base.
