NEW YORK (S&P Global Ratings) March 28, 2023--S&P Global Ratings today said FirstEnergy Corp.'s (FE; BBB-/Positive/--) announcement that it will appoint Brian Tierney as its next president and CEO supports its credit quality. The board of directors agreed to the appointment, and we consider this consistent with the company's strategy to grow its regulated utility business. Tierney has spent over two decades in the utility and infrastructure industries, with a significant portion spent in various senior executive roles while at American Electric Power Co. Furthermore, Tierney has extensive experience with utility operations and working with various stakeholders, including regulators in Ohio and West Virginia, where FE has a material presence.
