About This Report

Abstract:

SINGAPORE (S&P Global Ratings) March 10, 2017--S&P Global Ratings said today that the Korean Constitutional Court's decision to uphold the impeachment of President Park Geun-hye does not have an immediate effect on the sovereign credit rating on the Republic of Korea (South Korea; AA/Stable/A-1+). On March 10, 2017, the Korean Constitutional Court voted unanimously to affirm the National Assembly's impeachment of President Park. A presidential election will be held within two months. We expect potential delays in the making of some policy decisions in South Korea during the campaign period. This is happening at a time when the country faces increased economic and geopolitical uncertainties. Nevertheless, we believe it is unlikely that South Korean credit metrics will see material deterioration
