Abstract:

HONG KONG (Standard&Poor's) April 1, 2009--Standard&Poor's Ratings Services said today that its ratings on Bank of China Ltd. (A-/Stable/A-2) and Bank of China (Hong Kong) Ltd. (BOCHK; A-/Stable/A-2) are not affected by Bank of China's proposal to raise its stake in BOC Hong Kong (Holdings) Ltd. (not rated). In our view, the proposed transaction would be rating neutral as it is unlikely to affect the credit profiles of the rated banks. It could, however, have a marginally negative impact on Bank of China's capitalization. Bank of China plans to raise its shareholding in BOC Hong Kong--the intermediary holding company between Bank of China and BOCHK--via the secondary market within the next 12 months. Bank of China
