NEW YORK (Standard&Poor's) July 24, 2003-- Standard&Poor's Ratings Services said today that Amazon.com's (B/Stable/--) strong second-quarter results do not affect the current ratings or outlook on the company. The company reported strong sales gains in its media segment as a result of significant distribution of the Harry Potter book five. Net sales also benefited by $55 million from changes in foreign-exchange rates compared with the second quarter of 2002. However, the current sales growth may not be sustainable absent these two events. Standard&Poor's would consider changing the outlook to positive if current operating trends continue through the third quarter of 2003.
