NEW YORK (Standard&Poor's) March 16, 2004--Standard&Poor's Ratings Services said today that there would be no effect on the ratings and outlook of International Flavors&Fragrances Inc. (BBB+/Negative/--) after the company announced that, on March 15, 2004, a jury had awarded $20 million in compensatory damages against the company in a case related to the safety and handling of one of its products. The plaintiffs alleged that they sustained respiratory injuries working at a plant owned and operated by Glister-Mary Lee Corp. in Jasper, Mo., and that IFF and its subsidiary Bush Boake Allen Inc. supplied a harmful ingredient to the plant.
