About This Report

Abstract:

In yesterday's general parliamentary election in the Republic of Suriname, no party attained a majority of the seats. Despite the political uncertainly, the country's economic policies are unlikely to change drastically, so we have affirmed the 'B+' long-term sovereign credit rating on the republic. The outlook is positive because we could raise the rating if the country's monetary and fiscal policies remain stable through the upcoming government transition. NEW YORK (Standard&Poor's) May 26, 2010--Standard&Poor's Ratings Services said today that it affirmed its 'B+' long-term sovereign credit rating on the Republic of Suriname. Standard&Poor's also said that the outlook on Suriname remains positive. The affirmation follows the May 25, 2010, general parliamentary election in Suriname.
