Costco Wholesale Corporation ( COST , Analyst Report ), one of the leading U. S warehouse club operators, is slated to report its third quarter 2012 financial results on Thursday, May 24. The current Zacks Consensus Estimate for the quarter is 87 cents a share that reflects a growth of 8.8% from the prior year quarter's earnings. The estimates in the current Zacks Consensus range between a low of 81 cents and a high of 90 cents a share.

Although the 148,000 square foot project still needs design approval from the City Planning Commission and the City Council, officials in Mayor Mitch Landrieu's administration said Wednesday they are hopeful that those steps will be formalities as all parties work toward a mid 2013 opening. Costco Chairman Jeff Brotman said his company is "thrilled" to be planting its flag in New Orleans. "We've seen firsthand the resilience of its residents, and we are excited about contributing to the area's revitalization," Brotman said in a statement. Costco, which has a record of providing some of the best wages and benefits in the retail sector, plans to employ as many as 200 workers, about half of them full time

Costco ( NASDAQ:COST), the world's largest warehouse chain, has launched a mortgage program in partnership with First Choice Bank and 10 other lenders. This follows on the heels of its health insurance partnership with Aetna ( See Costco Partners With Aetna To Sell Health Insurance .). It intends to leverage its customer base and wider presence to market this program.

Costco Wholesale Corporation (Costco), with its subsidiaries operates membership warehouses that offer its members low prices on a limited selection of branded and selected private-label products in a range of merchandise categories. The Company buys the majority of its merchandise directly from manufacturers and route it to a cross-docking consolidation point (depot) or directly to its warehouses. Its depots receive container-based shipments from manufacturers and reallocate these goods for shipment to its individual warehouses, generally in less than 24 hours. Costco’s warehouse format averages approximately 143,000 square feet. Its warehouses operate on a seven-day, 69-hour week. It carries an average of approximately 3,600 active stock keeping units (SKUs) per warehouse in its core warehouse business. Many consumable products are offered for sale only in case, carton, or multiple-pack quantities only.
