The Group's principal activities are carried out through four business segments: exploration and production segment, refining segment, marketing and distribution segment and chemicals segment, and a corporate and others. Business activities of the refining segment consists of exploring for and developing oil fields, produces crude oil and natural gas and sells such products to the refining segment of the Group and external customers. Refining includes processing and purifying crude oil. Marketing and distribution invoves in owning and operating oil depots and service stations in the People's Republic of China. Chemicals segment includes manufacturing and selling petrochemical products, derivative petrochemical products and other chemical products to external customers. Others include rading activities of the import and export companies of the Group and research and development undertaken by other subsidiaries.
