LONDON (Standard&Poor's) Nov. 17, 2014--Standard&Poor's Ratings Services said today that Klaus Iohannis' presidential election victory over current Prime Minister and leader of the Social Democratic Party, Victor Ponta, has no immediate effect on our sovereign credit ratings on Romania (BBB-/Stable/A-3). That said, the election outcome could result in a period of protracted political wrangling--potentially arising from a weakening of the current coalition following Mr. Ponta's defeat, or a rift between the president and government. We could reassess our ratings if, as a consequence of the likely uncertainty, we see Romania's growth prospects deteriorating or if we detect a risk of material deviation from our expectation of stable fiscal balances.
