Publication Date:May 05, 2008
Report Type:Commentary
Abstract:The ISM nonmanufacturing index rose to 52.0 in April, from 49.6 in March. It was above a modest decline to 49.0 that markets had expected. The business activity index slipped to 50.9 from 52.2, yet at above 50 indicates growth. The employment index climbed to 50.8 from 46.9, in line with the strength in service-sector jobs shown in the April payrolls report. New orders held at 50.1, while new export orders fell to 48.5 from 55.0. Prices paid rose to 72.1 from 70.8. The better-than-expected report will likely give some support to equities and bond yields today.
