Fewer than ## companies make up the pesticide residue community, and many of them do that in conjunction with their pathogen test activities. Academic institutions are less apt to work alone on pesticide residue test development than they do with pathogens. The marketing of GMO and other contaminant tests appears to be chiefly in the hands of a limited number of commercial test makers. Most companies offer the tests as adjuncts to their more lucrative life sciences and pharmaceutical activities.
