The liberal-conservative Civic Platform (PO) has been in power since November 2007 in a coalition with the Polish Peasants' Party (PSL), with the PO leader, Donald Tusk, as prime minister. Presidential elections were held in October 2005 and parliamentary elections in October 2007, two years ahead of schedule, following the collapse of the previous government, which was led by the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party. The head of state, who has few executive powers, is the president.
