| Abstract: | Construction materials producers hardly cover the domestic demand, while consumption of construction materials is estimated to further grow in the coming years. The rise in demand is prompted by increased investments in residential and commercial real estate as well as by infrastructure works throughout the country. The local cement market will increase by 10- 15% on a yearly basis in the following five years, so that market participants will need to enlarge and develop new production facilities in order to benefit from the higher demand. Cement production exceeded 10mn tonnes in 2007, while the consumption per capita, was 450kg, to double in the next five years. Cement price has already increased by 6-8% ytd, while its future evolution depends on input prices evolution. Market participants expect it to increase by some 12% over the year. Whereas in 2007 construction materials producers performed extremely well on the local exchange, this year several companies in the field approached the stock exchange as a financing alternative and carry on IPOs in order to raise funds for future developments. The recent acquisitions in the sector suggest that construction materials sector remains one of the most attractive at the moment. Producers of construction materials have become the main targets for private equity funds lately, as the sector posts increased growth rates. The latest two big acqusitions were made by Enterprise Investors and Advent International. |
