In 2007 GDP of the country amounted to HRK 275.078 bln, of which HRK 16.417 bln was generated by the construction sector. According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics of Croatia, the number of the registered construction companies stood at 18,402 in end-June 2008. The active companies numbered 11,636. Privately-owned construction companies totalled 11,266, while the state-owned were 94. The construction cooperatives were 135 in the first half of 2008.
