In 2006, Thailand is the world's 14th largest producer of motor vehicle, with 1.296 million unit vehicles produced, registering an increase of 15.44% from 2005. This is the second consecutive year that Thailand vehicle production exceeded one million units. Thailand is also the largest motor vehicle producer in ASEAN. Notably, Thailand is the world's largest producer of one tonne pickup trucks. Thailand aims to become one of the top ten largest automotive producers in the world by 2010. Accordingly, over the next five years, the Thai automotive industry plans to produce no less than 1.8 mn automobiles per year as well as to export at least 800,000 automobiles per year.
